Finished logo from yesterday’s work in progress!
Carrying on from yesterday’s theme, I have been making logos based on my favourite books. Brave Story is the book which captivated me the most; I loved the story and the way how Wataru continued going even when he couldn’t. The movie was okay but the book was far superior, with many themes such as divorce, abuse, racism, discrimination, ethics and betrayal. In the logo I’ve included the dove and blackbird, Brave’s Sword and Mirror of Truth, all of which were important themes but excluded from the movie.
I made the sword brown to look like it’s rusty because originally the Brave’s Sword was this pathetic piece of equipment that can barely be used to chop vegetables, let alone use to fight. However, it is a reflection of Wataru’s self- It’s small, weak, light-weight and pathetic, just like he was. But as he journeyed though Vision, his sword changed with him. The Mirror of Truth is an item in Vision (the other world Wataru travels to) which is used to go back to the real world. Th problem with that is that you’re only allowed to travel for a short amount of time, otherwise you’re stuck in limbo between Vision and the real world. The birds are rather significant too; they represent the two souls who were eaten and trapped inside Vision. If I remember correctly, the blackbird is the soul of the bully who was devoured at the beginning of the book and the white bird represents the soul of a girl called Kaori (again, completely skipped from the movie) who had no soul to begin with. Wataru saw these birds and used the Mirror of Truth to release their souls back to the real world. This is significant because Wataru was taking the souls from Vision back to Earth, and Vision is a world which is also a reflection of Wataru’s heart… so I think what the author of the book was emphasising is that someone else has the power to change who you are. The bully and Kaori’s souls were lost but were found again, by Wataru. That’s why I decided to put the birds in. The star pattern is just the symbol or sigil which is inscribed onto the Brave’s Sword.
Anyway, I really hope you like this and I hope I’ve inspired some of you to at least take a look at the book!
